I'm Scottie Sharpe. I play beats.

I’m looking for a team that’s looking for a drummer.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME

I’m a heavy groove drummer, male, age 34, into Monster Blunt hip hop grooves but necessary rap, Stones guitar rock like Sheryl Crow, groovy rock and roll like Wallflowers, smooth, skilled playing like Steely Dan, simple deep rock grooves like new Petty, and live showmanship style like Kravitz. I like bands that run a tight, but fun ship James Brown or U2 style. Orgasm can be achieved with horns ala Earth Wind and Fire.

I really like the wave of "alternative" rock with hip-hop grooves like Beck. But I’m geared toward heavy funk experience or good groovy rock and roll like Sheryl Crow.

WHAT I SOUND LIKE

People say I play like Charlie Watts if plugged into an Alesis drum module, but I think I sound more like Jan Kinkaid of Brand New Heavies. I love the Heavies!

That means that, although I play some pop straight-back rock and roll drums Charlie Watts style, I also specialize in hip-hop and bottom heavy grooving. If you are a hip-hop producer looking to put some acoustic, humanity back into your drum tracks, no matter how expensive your drum machine was, ditch its sorry ass. It's makin' your tunes sound like lukewarm Cambell's soup when they could taste like a steamy New Orleans gumbo.

MY TOOLS

Suffice it to say, I love drums. If you’re not into drums, skip this section! I play a delicious Gretch round badge "Broadkaster" four piece kit in psychedelic baby blue flame swirl. I've got other kits, but this one speaks to God. Cymbalswise, although I dig the new technology, I love old cymbals at the same time. I’m currently playing some Sabian EQ hats and a 20" Istanbul, for example. Sometimes when I’m recording, I’ll play an Alesis D4-based Roland electronic kit. Or if playing live and the soundguy just got this job after losing his previous job working the PA system at Walmart, I’ll put triggers on my acoustic kit and run them electronically. I have a double kick pedal, but it usually doesn’t make it out of the gig bag. I guess the bottom line is that my drums sound delectable on stage and in the studio.

EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL HYGEINE

I have 6 years experience as a professional drummer and I’m easy to get along with. I shower regularly. I’ve done the weekly bar gigs, toured regionally, recorded indie stuff with past bands, commercials ditty stuff, and various stage/theater shows. I like being really good at drums and I like playing with really good musicians. I work hard and am committed to the music. Although I don’t mind working part time, I am looking to put 200% of my effort into my next project. I am a success oriented long term team player. I expect the same from the band.

My only addictions are sex and watching Ren and Stimpy, but thankfully they usually happen at the same time!

GOALS

I’m looking for a recording and/or touring situation. No prob with relo/travel in or out of the US. Pro management only.

Peace & Health to you and yours,

Scottie Sharpe

BTW: When I see great ideas, I love to pass them along. Here's one that could make YOU rich: "When a cat is dropped, it always lands on its feet, and when toast is dropped, it always lands with the buttered side facing down. I propose to strap buttered toast to the back of a cat; the two will hover, spinning inches above the ground. With a giant buttered cat array, a high-speed monorail could easily link New York with Chicago."
