The DYNACO Kit

In the '60's the Dynaco company made it possible for the masses to experience high end audio music reproduction in their own homes. Offering both kits and pre-built tube and solid state equipment, Dynaco's circuits (designed by now-famous David Hafler) combined outstanding sound quality and value.

My Dynaco kit is incomplete. I'm missing a pre-amplifier. However I am enjoy what I have quite a bit! My little combo is restored to stock and sounds absolutely terrific!!

(I am looking for a PAS3 tube preamplifer to complete my kit. )

Amp: Dynaco ST-70 - 35 watts per channel into 8 ohms. Restored with new RCA tubes, but not recapped or rewired.

Speakers: Dynaco A25 - 8" woofer and 1" Seas dome tweeter. Tuned baffle.

TT: Acoustic Research AX - all stock and super sweet!!

Cartridge: Shure 97-EX .

SUPER Vintage Audiophile - When I was in high school, I used to drool over issues of High Fidelity. To me, the late '70's and early '80's were the best years of high fidelity. I have "mostly" assembled a system to reflect my love for that era. I do most of my critical listening on this system and it sounds quite impressive.

Amp: Phase Linear 400. Simply a powerhouse. Clean accurate sound and gobs of headroom. A classic. What more can  you say?

Speaker Wire: Monster Cable. I'm not a cable guy. I just can't hear the difference. Sorry!

Speakers: Dahlquist DQ-10 modified with ADS 4 ohm soft dome tweeters. Sounds like an electrostatic speaker, but without the annoying directional limitations. Looking for a 2nd pair so I can stack them.

TT: Sota Sapphire with Micro Seiki arm. Sounds great....all 60 lbs of it.

Cartridges: Grado Gold and Ortofon OM30

Phono Amp: Musical Fidelity B1

Pre Amp: Nakamichi 610

Cassette: Pioneer 850

Reel to Reel: Pioneer 1050

Noise Reduction: DBX 224

Tape signal routing: DBX 400

Tuner: Sherwood Quartz

Living Room - Believe it or not, this is the kit that gets played the most. We don't watch much television in our house, but we are always tuned in to great jazz sounds.

Receiver: Pioneer SX-580. Pioneer made some of the best sounding receives at any price. The SX 580 puts out a scant 20 watts per channel, but for "background music" it's plenty of juice.

Antenna: homemade Roof Mount 10' dipole Yagi.

Speakers: Bose 901 Series II on original stands. The Bose speakers may not be that accurate, but they have an oddly comforting and somewhat addictive sound... and they do a great job of "wafting" the music through the house.
